Colombia vs Japan Review

Colombia 1-2 Japan

Colombia has had a nightmare start in Russia. With an expected victory, the South American side seemed to have not play to their full potential.

Japan started the game well with a nice attack which led to Shinji Kagawa's shot on goal being blocked by the arm of Carlos Sanchez, which resulted in a red card for the Columbian  Kagawa was calm and collective as he stepped up to take the penalty, despite Arsenal's David Ospina's attempts to throw the Japanese international off. Kagawa was able to convert the penalty as he slotted it down the middle.

Japan had a few wasted opportunities in the first half, with Inui and Osako missing golden opportunities. Colombia were able to capitalise on a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. Quintero took a clever free kick that went under the wall, which Japan's kepper was unable to save.

Yuya Osako

However, it was Japan who regained their lead, Yuya Osako finished with a header from Keisuke Honda's corner.
Substitute James Rodriguez had been struggling to leave a mark on the game coming on in  the 60th minute, and with Japan at last making their extra man count and dominating possession there would be one big chance late on.
Freed into space after a clever backheel, Rodriguez's blistering strike from inside the box was deflected over the bar by a brave lunge from Osako.
