Egypt vs Uruguay Review

Egypt 0-1 Uruguay

A poor performance by Luis Suarez summed up Egypt vs Uruguay today, and he was far out-shadowed by compatriot Edinson Cavani. Egypt looked on their way to a well deserved 0-0 draw with Uruguay on Friday to open up the African sides' World Cup campaign, with some resolute defending and for 88 minutes an impenetrable goalkeeper, who at 29 years of age, made his national team debut in a friendly in March 2018, and has gone on to make 2 more apps for his national team, former pizza deliverer Mohammad El- Shenawy, who was also named Man of the Match suffered heartbreak following Giminez's winner from a Carlos Sanchez free kick. Liverpools "Egyptian King" and declared fit Mohamed Salah spent the entire match on the bench, much to his, and us as spectators dismay.

Jose Maria Gimenez's booming header in the 89th minute as Uruguay earned a 1-0 win and three valuable points in the group. It wasn't close to Uruguay's best performance as a youthful midfield struggled to create, Juventus's Rodrigo Bentacur played well but didn't shine. Suarez wasted valuable chances on goal, and missed a sitter in the first half, and expertly denied expertly early in the second, but the South Americans dug deep, and came close to scoring on a number of occasions, mainly due to Edinson Cavani.
Uruguay's 57-percent possession and four shots on goal, reads as if it was a game the team could have had in the bag earlier. Egypt deserved a point in the end with how well they defended, but the late magic was enough and spoiled Salah's birthday.
The Liverpool star was expected to play, but coach Hector Cuper kept him off with Egypt defending well, and adding an extra defensive body in the 82nd minute. Egypt are now are going to need him more than ever with six points still up for grabs, and a win against Russia should put them in the driving seat to qualify for the knockouts.
