Serbia vs Costa Rica Review

Serbia 1-0 Costa Rica

Serbia vs Costa Rica kicked off Matchday 4, and Group E in the World Cup 2018, but left viewers ultimately disappointed. Another dull match in this years World Cup ended up with one moment of magic, with captain Alexandr Kolorov executing a freekick, that isn't quite on the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo's on Friday, but is up there nonetheless.

Kolarov's effort had sufficient bend to find the top corner with Real Madrid number one Keylor Navas palming thin air as he scrambled across goal drastically to try and make the save.
Costa Rica threatened the Serbia goal on occasion, their best effort a Giancarlo Gonzalez early header that went over the crossbar from unmarked defender.
As both teams have games against group favourites Brazil and Switzerland to come, this match was crucial if either nations want to challenge for progression to the knockout stages.
Mladen Krstajic's Serbia side who are the the lowest ranked European nation at Russia 2018 now appear the best placed of the two to progress after a dominant second-half display, and now are expected to challenge Switzerland for qualification.
The scoreline would have been greater if it wasn't for Navas, who if he had not narrowed the angle to deny Fulham's on-loan Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who had a poor game and failed to execute following a well timed pass from wonderkid Sergej Milinkovic-Savic earlier in the game, who himself attempted a finish which was a chance not taken.
Serbia and Manchester United midfield maestro Nemanja Matic was involved in an ugly confrontation as shoves were exchanged with a member of the Costa Rican coaching staff in injury time as he tried to retrieve the ball after it went out of play.
