Premier League- Matchweek 4- Cardiff vs Arsenal
Alexandre Lacazette's powerful late winner separated the sides in a contest full of attacking quality and defensive inept.
The Gunners led twice, first through Shkodran Mustafi's bullet header and then an excellent curling effort from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, before Lacazette crashed home the third, which proved to be the winner on 81 minutes
Victor Camarasa's first Cardiff goal, on the stroke of half-time, and a Danny Ward header, looked to have set the Bluebirds for a point as they scored their first goals of the league season, in their fourth fixture.
Emery's side took the lead on 11 minutes with a goal as Mustafi headed home, unopposed, from Granit Xhaka's corner, a goal which certainly would have angered Cardiff boss Neil Warnock.
A wonderful save from Neil Etheridge, to deny Nacho Monreal, prevented the Gunners from going 2-0 up, and Cardiff a mountain to climb inside 20 minutes.
Arsenal struggled on the road last season and lost their first away trip this season at Stamford Bridge, and the North London side came into this game having lost eight of their past nine away games. It seemed as if it was business as usual for Arsenal as the Gunners allowed the hosts a way back in to the game not once, but twice and the Arsenal defence was at fault for both Cardiff goals.
The opening of the game was a full of attacking intent and appalling defensive showings by both sides, and Lacazette proved the danger as he struck the post with a well hit shit just past the 30-minute mark, as Arsenal continue to press forward.
Arsenal almost had another, as another corner routine almost replicated their opening goal when Mustafi got another firm header to Xhaka's corner, but this time the keeper made the save.
Lacazette and Aubameyang struggled to connect at some times, but they combined to perfection just past the hour mark when some intricate build up play, a beautiful flick by Lacazette to Aubameyang, who curled one home from just outside the area, for his 150th goal in one of Europe's top five leagues, Arsenal’s third, and their second win of the season.
