Premier League - Matchweek 4 - Sunday 2nd September Preview
Cardiff vs Arsenal
Cardiff City play hosts to Arsenal in Sunday’s early kick off in Wales, with the Gunners wanting to build momentum following last weekend’s victory against West Ham, being the first competitive win in the Emery era.
Defeats against Man City and then Chelsea were arguably expected for the Gunners, and the losses for the North London side were not at all embarrassing. A 2-goal comeback against Chelsea was encouraging, and a late goal certainly hurt the Gunners.
The 3-1 victory against West Ham was not a vintage performance but a win nonetheless, despite some understandable West Ham grievances, the 3 points were crucial for Arsenal and Emery.
Arsenal will come into the game with confidence, yet back to back victories for Cardiff show signs of promise for the Bluebirds.
The worry for the Welsh side is that they haven’t scored a goal, yet this season and Warnock and his side will certainly hope that comes against their North London counterparts.
Burnley vs Manchester United
Burnley and Manchester United are both seeking to recover from back-to-back defeats as they meet at Turf Moor.
Burnley return to Premier League action, having been knocked out of the Europa League by Olympiacos on Thursday, drawing 1-1 at Turf Moor and thus suffering a 4-2 aggregate defeat. The Clarets can take confidence into this one due to the multiple amounts of chances they had on Thursday, and on another day would have progressed through the tie.
Manchester United won their opening fixture against Leicester, albeit unconvincingly, yet haven't kicked on from there. Humiliation against Brighton and a 3-0 thumping at the hands of Tottenham see United 3 points from 3 games. The footballing world are questioning the stability of Jose Mourinho's job. United didn't make the defensive signings they needed in the summer, much to the annoyance of Mourinho, and with whispers still of tensions between the manager and Paul Pogba, all is not quite right at Manchester United.
There is talk that this game could be make or break for Jose, and the pressure is certainly on the Red Devils to take victory in this one. United will certainly be feeling nervous about this one, and for a team of this stature, 3 consecutive defeats is unheard of.
Burnley no longer have to worry about European football, so will most likely get back to their usual ways, and certainly will be keen to make up for European heartbreak in this fixture.
Prediction - Burnley 2-1 Manchester United
Watford vs Tottenham Hotspur
Watford and Tottenham Hotspur both have perfect winning records so far this season, but for at least one team that record will change come the derby on Sunday at Vicarage Road.
A win for Watford would be only the second time in their history they have won their first four league matches in a season. They previously did so in 1988/89, in the second tier of English football.
Watford haven't beaten Spurs in 10 Premier League encounters, only managing to take 3 points in these 10 fixtures.
Watford held Spurs to a 1-1 draw in December 2017, and have suffered defeat in 4 of their last 5 league fixtures.
I can't imagine the record changing in favour of Watford yet, and although they will put up a test for Tottenham,
Prediction - Watford 1-3 Spurs
